About GPI

A New Institute
for a New Frontier

The Institute of General Physical Intelligence (GPI) at Fudan University is led by Professor Hao Su. We welcome original research that pushes the frontier of intelligence — across any discipline, without predetermined paths.

We operate on an independent PI model: every PI defines their own research agenda, builds their own team, and sets their own direction. Promotions follow a tenure-track system modeled on the world’s leading research universities, grounded in academic contribution — while also encouraging work that creates broad societal and industrial impact.

Physical intelligence is our core focus. We believe that enabling machines to truly understand and act within the physical world is a critical path toward general intelligence. In Shanghai, one of the world’s most dynamic innovation hubs, we are building an institution that is open, well-resourced, and internationally aligned — for people with real ideas.
